What is resource booking?
Resource booking (resource management) allows you to set up specific rooms, stations or equipment and assign them to services. When those services are booked, the resources are automatically booked at the same time so that you don’t get double booked when a resource is unavailable. You can also use resources to help you restrict the number of appointments for the same time slot, such as treatments, a private shopping appointment or meetings.
Easily manage resources with Square Appointments
Create resources - like rooms, stations, or chairs – and assign them to your services that require them. You can create an unlimited amount of resources and assign them to specific locations. When those services are booked, the resources are automatically blocked at the same time so that you don’t get doubled booked when a resource is unavailable.
Room booking
Create resources for rooms such as treatment rooms, meeting rooms or classrooms.

Set up resources for equipment required for different services such as beauty devices, exercise equipment or cleaning machinery.

Create resources for workstations or chairs so you never run out of space in your salon, office or workshop.
Set up resources in minutes
Creating resources is easy from your online Square Dashboard, Square Appointments app or on the Square Register. Simply choose a name for your resource (e.g. Massage room), add a description, select the appropriate business location and you’re done.

Manually managing resource bookings using spreadsheets can lead to unintended mistakes. Eliminate errors by using the resource management software included in Square Appointments.
Assign resources to services
To ensure you don’t double book resources, you can assign resources to services. Select which service requires a resource and choose the resource you’d like to assign. When the service is booked, Square Appointments will automatically block off one of the available resources preventing double bookings on another appointment.
Assigning resources across multiple locations
If a certain service is available at different locations of your business, you can assign resources to one, some, or all of your locations.
Limit the number of appointments available at the same time
Resources can also help you restrict the number of appointments during the same time slot. For example, you might have three staff members available for a luxury spa experience, but you only want to have one appointment at any given time. In this case, you can name your resource ‘luxury spa’, and assign it to the relevant service so only one luxury spa appointment can be booked online for any given time slot.
Setting up resource booking is easy.
Manage resources from your Appointments dashboard, on the Square Appointments app or from your Square device.
Select the service which requires a resource.
Turn on Resource required for this service.
In the Assigned resources section, tap Select resource and select the resource(s) you’d like to assign to the service.

1.6% card present rate applies for Square Sellers who sign up on or after 30 May 2024, or who signed up prior to this date and subscribed to Square Appointments Plus or Premium. The rate of 1.9% will apply for all other Square Sellers who signed up prior to this date when using Square Reader, Square Stand or Tap to Pay, as listed in the Square Fee Schedule.

Assigning resources to services is easy.
From the Appointments Dashboard
- Navigate to the Items section of your online Square Dashboard > Services.
- Select the service which requires a resource.
- Toggle on Resource required.
- Select the resource(s) you’d like to assign to the service. When the service is booked on an appointment, one of these assigned resources will also be booked.
- Tap Save.
Note: If you have different variations on a service, you can assign different resources to your variations as well.
From the Appointments App
- Open the Square app > tap on Items & Services > All Services
- Select the service which requires a resource.
- Turn on Resource required for this service.
- In the Assigned resources section, tap Select resource and select the resource(s) you’d like to assign to the service.
- Tap Save.
From Square Register
- Tap on the down arrow and navigate to Items.
- Tap All Services > select the service which requires a resource.
- Toggle on Resource required for this service.
- Tap the Assigned resources section and select the resource(s) you’d like to assign to the service.
- Tap Select.
